What is Vitamin U
Vitamin U is an anti-ulcer agent. It was found in cabbage juice in 1954. It can promote the repair and healing of the wound surface of the gastrointestinal mucosa and improve the movement function of the gastrointestinal tract. It is mainly used for the auxiliary treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis, gastrointestinal motility, and chronic gastritis. It can promote the repair and healing of the wound surface of the gastrointestinal mucosa and improve the movement function of the gastrointestinal tract. Vitamin U is not an essential trace element for human life, so it does not belong to the real vitamin system, but is a derivative of the amino acid methionine.
Physicochemical properties of Vitamin U:
Vitamin U is easily soluble in water but insoluble in ethanol and ether. Appearance is white crystalline powder, with a special smell and salty bitter taste. It is easy to decompose and lose efficacy when exposed to air or light for a long time, and its aqueous solution is acidic.
Source of Vitamin U
It is widely distributed in green leafy vegetables such as Cabbage, lettuce, alfalfa, and other green leafy vegetables.
Synthetic route of Vitamin U:
Synthesis route 1: preparation of vitamin U chloride
Ratio: methionine: water: methyl chloride=1:48:3
Operation steps: put deionized water and methionine into the autoclave in proportion, seal it, and replace it with methyl chloride gas three times. Open the constant pressure pipeline, and put methyl chloride into the tank according to the liquid level gauge. Start stirring, raise the temperature to 55 ℃, adjust the temperature of a jacket water bath, maintain a constant temperature, and recover the remaining methyl chloride after 10 hours of reaction. Open the drain valve, draw out the reaction solution, decolorize it with 0.1% activated carbon, and condense it into thick syrup under reduced pressure. Add methanol to dissolve, crystallize at low temperature (0~5 ℃), centrifuge to obtain white crystals, vacuum dry (50 ℃), and package in a constant humidity chamber, with a yield of 90~92% and a melting point of 137.5~138.5 ℃.
Synthesis route 2: preparation of Vitamin U iodide
1) Methyl iodide method: methionine 150g, water 150ml, methyl iodide 156g, water bath 45 ℃ heating reflux for 5 hours, after cooling and filtering, the filtrate is concentrated at a pressure below 60 ℃ until a large number of crystals are separated. The concentrate is treated with 600ml ethanol and frozen overnight. Filter by suction, wash the crystal twice with 30-40ml absolute ethanol and then dry it under pressure at 2-0-30 ℃. The decomposition point is 156-157 ℃, and the yield is 92%.
2) Methanol sulfuric acid method: 5g methionine and 1ml methanol are dissolved in 35ml 18N sulfuric acid, oil bath 130-140 ℃
Reflux for half an hour, cool, pour into 100ml of distilled water, slowly neutralize with barium hydroxide lotion to pH2-3, keep the water bath at 50 ℃ for several hours, filter, then soak twice with warm water, combine the filtrate and lotion, accurately neutralize to pH5 with saturated barium hydroxide solution, filter, add the filtrate into the telephone solution until no precipitation occurs, filter, decompress and concentrate the filtrate below 60 ℃ to syrup, dissolve it in 10ml of 50% ethanol, filter, The filter residue was washed twice with a small amount of 50% ethanol. The filtrate was combined with the washing solution, and 4.9 g of product was obtained by crystallization, washing, and drying. The yield was 51%.
What is the dose of Vitamin U
Oral: 0.05-0.1g each time, three times a day, before meals or on an empty stomach.
Subcutaneous or intramuscular injection: 0.1-0.2g each time, once a day.
Vitamin U side effects
Constipation or diarrhea may occur when taking this product. Dry mouth, dysuria, dilated pupils, constipation, etc., but for a short time. If the adverse reaction is serious, the dosage can be reduced and recovered later
Vitamin U benefits
1. Helps heal the gastric ulcer
Some studies have shown that drinking cabbage juice every day helps to heal intestinal ulcers.
2. May protect lungs, liver, and kidneys
Vitamin U can protect the lung, liver and kidney from damage, In an animal study, vitamin U helped reverse liver and lung damage caused by some common antiepileptic drug, valproic acid.
3. May reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels
Some studies have shown that vitamin U supplements help lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
4. Helps heal wounds and protect skin
Vitamin U can prevent burns and other damages caused by ultraviolet rays, and accelerate wound healing.
The development direction of Vitamin U
As a drug to treat gastric ulcers, Vitamin U can not meet the needs of patients, and it is very slow to relieve symptoms, gradually sliding to the edge of elimination. But with the development of science and technology, it has become a good medicine to treat stomach diseases again. The current vitamin U has adjusted the proportion of the main anti-ulcer element, designed a unique double-layer tablet structure, separated the antacid from the anti-ulcer element, and the outer layer contains a strong antacid. After taking it, it will rapidly dissolve, neutralize excessive gastric acid, protect the gastric membrane, reduce the probability of the main anti-ulcer element being digested by gastric acid, maintain its durable potency, and give full play to its efficacy.
